Topaz
Welcome to Topaz Class
This year in Topaz Class is set to be full of curiosity, creativity, exploration and discovery! With Mrs Oakley leading the way, supported by our wonderful teaching assistants, Mrs Bourton and Miss Katzaros, we are excited to create a classroom where children are encouraged to ask questions, investigate, get hands-on and discover things for themselves.
Our new curriculum will take children on some fantastic learning adventures! In History, we will become school detectives, uncovering the story of All Saints’ Church of England School and discovering how it has changed over time. We will then take to the skies as we explore the history of flight, discovering key milestones and learning about inspirational pioneers such as Amelia Earhart and the Wright brothers. In Geography, we will become explorers of our own world! We will map the UK, continents and oceans, investigate hot and cold places and compare our school with a school in London. We will explore the human and physical features that make places unique. Our learning will then take us into the countryside as we become young geographers and investigators, exploring how farming in Suffolk has changed over the last 100 years, comparing farming in different countries and discovering the fascinating world of rice farming in India.
Our mixed Year 1 and Year 2 classroom will provide lots of opportunities for children to learn together, learn from one another and learn through doing. During the first term, our Year 1 children will be encouraged to explore, talk, investigate and experience learning practically, building confidence and independence. Our Year 2 children will deepen their thinking, use subject-specific vocabulary, explain their ideas and apply their knowledge independently, ensuring they continue to meet the expectations of the Year 2 curriculum.
In Maths, we will use NCETM approaches alongside White Rose materials to develop deep mathematical understanding through practical resources, visual representations, rich discussion, reasoning and problem-solving. In English and Phonics, children will develop their vocabulary, sentence structure and confidence as readers, writers and communicators, with learning carefully adapted to meet the needs and expectations of each year group. PE will take place on a Wednesday afternoon and children will develop their knowledge and skills within team games, expressive dance and familiar sports
Most importantly, Topaz Class is a place to Dream, Believe and Achieve together. Through exciting experiences, children will be encouraged to dream big, believe in themselves and achieve their very best, while learning from one another and developing independence, resilience and confidence.
